This forum and game is very dead at the moment..
I think they released the game way to early..

As for a game to last it needs good multiplay part.
And this game got lots of nice stuff in sp but when they made the mp part they seem to work for 2 hours and then they released the game..

This is a check list that is a must on multiplay or the game will still be dead and none will buy it.

1. The most important ofcourse create a new server that serves players to connect and play mp games.. gamespy does not work good at all.. Exact same problems hapend to war of the ring that also used gamespy..

2. When chosing race you should be granted only the buildings for the race u chose and not be able to visit other race monuments and use their stuff as well.. whats the purpose with 6 nice races if u can use em all in a mp game ? The fun thing is to play what you like and only that. Get rid of all stupid buildings on the map that let you use other races... its DUMB!

3. You should make 1 avatar for each race. Ex. Orc avatar if u chose orc race.. Not like now you chose a premade ugly avatar and play with him even u aint human...
And for gods SAKE!!! let the avatar start on LVL 0 and then when fighting creeps on map and enemy you gain xp and can lvl to a maximum of lvl25. Thats VERY important and fun thing for players. Dont miss this. Let players create the avatar before game or instant in game.. A quick nice menu for looks Name and starting skills.. just like in sp. Then when u lvl up u chose a new skill.. Thou to be able to reach higher lvls in mp you need to double or make the xp gain 2-6 times faster.. So you really can experience a lvl 25 avatar after a 3-5 hours long game.. So much fun into that. Or ppl would comapre how high they can get their hero in a game.. It could work with those human avatar races for all races thou you should still be able to lvl up and use inventory buy weps and such.. This would make mp game MUCH more better than many other strat games with. The system works fine on sp just convert it to mp with a boost xp gain.

4. I build 1 of each unit and gather up and want to see how good my elite unit is compared to a grunt... hmm whats this.. I cant see any diff.. For all sake again.. Add some info on the char selected:
HP, Defense and attack. All there is now is 2 bars 1 not used and 1 green... no info at all really sux.. It make u feel like you got no controll.. a patch could easy add this info.. So ppl can see diff and how they should use units for diff attacks for best gain.

5. There is a HUGE miss on resources.. I tried play orcs today and they need alot of wood.. I used many workes and harvested all woods closest to me on the entire map without getting into enemy base.. It took like 12 mins and then the map was out of wood.. Then I was f**ed.. Just add a rate number instead of 1 for 1 tree add 10 on 1 tree.. so you can harvest more times before tree goes down.. and also add way more trees on the maps..

6. There are lots of more irretating stuff when builing the base as well but its the last thing that needs to be fixed..

7. Im only putting down this much time on this game cause I really belive in it and I know it would really rock if this would be in the game. So be smart now and use this info I know all players would agree on these improvements. Ive been in the game market for a loong time now and working with lots of games as well.. :)

I really hope they read this info as well and get some replies this time..

I forgot one thing..
In mp get rid of the hero monument as well.. its just stupid and you dont get a good controll over 5 heros and 1 avatar and a normal army.. It could be ok to be able to chose 1 hero or somehting like that..

FOCUS on the Avatar that you should be able to CREATE and lvl up and use inventory and be able to change gears on him and such that would be soo good for the mp part

about your comment about it's stupid to have all the race monuments in a multiplay game. it's neccesary, for example the trolls need either the dark elves or the orcs to mine iron for them.
same goes for elves they can't mine iron on there own.

so u will need all the race monuments for it to work.

also i think it would be rather too time consuming to choose skills and such as well as attributes during a multiplay game. perhaps a fixed cahracter that lvls up naturally so u don't have to choose any atributes or skills. only reason it worked in warcraft 3 was because u had only 3 things to choose all u did was press a + sign. just make the game harder to play,

I think a char that can level up would be really good. I mean, it would take away some time from gameplay, but It would make it more fun. Or you could select only the abilities you want to have at the beginning and the avatar then extends these. Or you select a new ability and the character points are used for the skill you need to efficiently use the new ability.
oh hell it would be so complex to make that work.. no it can't go well

Sure it would work flawless!
Just look at warcraft 3 they got the system in use and they got the best rts game out on the market.
Just learn from blizzard :)

This would be alil more complexed in deed but more fun.
Maybe you should make it easier to just let the player get 10 lvls max. And in 1 lvl up u can to click on stats and skill tree then u get them instant. So in other words less clicks and faster lvl ups than in sp.

I bet that without this lvl up system in game mp will not last at all.. And this game will only be a good sp game.. that works thou they loose way many players that prefers mp.. And mp is the thing that make a game last for some time... Just look at warcraft and starcraft I still play em alot.. and they are pretty old now specially sc... Learn from the master of games (blizzard) is nothing to be shamed about! :)

I agree about the hero monument thing, get rid of the damn hero's in multiplayer alltogether !!!!!!!!

especially in games with no creatures on, idiots just rush in with hero's and dont bother making armies at all.

Did not read this thread yet and I know we have to say something constructive when we reply but Drakin is completely right on all points.

I 'played' a multiplayer game 3 times now. As 'new' to SF this were the last times for MP. I also played WC3 and that was kind of friendly to new players. You started with a LvL1 Avatar with 1 spell. That is good to remember and use. Now I clicked on my avatar and noticed 10spells or so in high levels. Yeah right, like I know all those spells already. Nah, that's nothing for me.

I do not want to say to copy WC3 because SF also stands for RPG that also could have a bit more of workout online. Where is RPG when you already have all the spells.?

Also I still believe in this game and won't leave soon. I will buy addon packs and whatever but TMHO the game must really be worked out on further if people want to enjoy a multiplayer session. I really hope that Phenomic and JoWood understand what kind of potential this game could have.

I disagree, that's what team-work is for. You should be able to share stuff

Example:

Dwarves - mine Stone/Iron/Moon (no Defense Building) Elves Make the defense buildings for the Dwarves

Humans - mine Iron/Stone and the Elves can take care of the wood cause they have foresters and Master Woodcutting building

This would work :D

Oh..and the Elves can make all nasty Wind Archers to support the Elite ;)

Drakin, your points are good! I hope they get to make the multi play better with this feedback.
But I think you should be able to only use either good or dark race monuments, so you can control a max of three races that support each other, this would make some good situations such as where you can capture the opposite monument and keeping it out of enemy hands is slowing down the enemy army building but not giving you to much of an advantage, making the game more tactical (and fun!).

And you should be able to only get one/two hero/s MAX, as I usually keep one behind to guard the base, too many heroes mean that nobody bothers to build up bases and stroll about killing everyone else before they have begun.

And I like the idea of leveling up your avatar at the beggining and making a new one for each game, maybe dot some chests around with random spells and weapons to equip your characters with, this would mean lots of scout parties near the beggining to get the best goods for there avatar!
Then you have your random spiders/bugs etc and enemy troops around for the level raising, which should be hugely quicker than single player (as you don't want to be playing for more than 24hrs). Doing this would mean you could experiment with different types of avatar raising, such as a warrior or a necomancer. Fun! And it would help decide how you develp your av in sp!
Or there could be two types of play, one with your sp avatar and another using a new lv.1 which you build up while playing.

All these suggestions are good... but the main thing is to make Multiplayer games about a hundred times more reliable then they are now... :(

yup i agree 2, especially with the points to get rid of gamespy and get only the civ you have chosen.also the avatar why is an orc army beeing led by a human :confused: thats pretty stupid.

For multiplay i'd rather create an avatar just like in singleplayer and level him up over the course of many mp games, maybe one level achieved per game that was won/lost(doesn't count if you drop out).

as for lvl difference between avatars of different players causing imbalance, well here's one solution:

the game would save the data for your avatar(a 'snapshot' of each level attained) then if for example you join a game that has a level 10-15 avatar limit and you have reached level 18 with your avatar, you would play in that particular mp game with the avatar the way he was at level 15...

*shrug* just an idea, dunno how you would deal with equipment and stuff..

Servers are expensive. Blizzard can afford them because they are an extremly successful company. They have had about 10+ million copies of their games sold! That's how they can afford to run Battle.net. A smaller company like Jowood doesn't have so much income so running such a large and fast server would be unprofitable. But yes the servers are slow, and I REALLY don't like the gamespy game servers.
